The End, But Not Good-Bye

Okay.

So the trip is coming to a close. This is it. As I talked about in the previous post, I’ve met some wonderful people.

But I want to point out something important: when I decided to set on this journey, the goal wasn’t just to visit every Bojangles in the continental US (one day I’ll visit Honduras), it was to get famous.

It was all about me and my craveometer.

But a funny thing happen on the way to fame. I began working out, I began talking to people, and I began meeting people. People from all walks of life, not just people working in Bojangles’ (although I did meet a lot of them).

And what I realized is this: people are good. The best people are in the south eastern part of the US, and they are good people. They’re equally willing to talk to a stranger over a biscuit or a beer.

If you tell them you’re new in their town, they’ll take the time to tell you about their town. Like the time I was in Dothan, Alabama (named for Genesis 37:17: “let us go to Dothan”), and the people proudly told me that it was the Peanut Capital of the World. Apparently, a quarter of the peanuts grown in the US are grown around Dothan.

See, who knew?

Or the time I was in Athens, Tennessee, and I learned about the famous “Battle of Athens”. I’ll bet you didn’t know about the battle of Athens. I didn’t. But it was a battle let by the citizens to take back the corrupt local government. And old-timer named Bill told me what it meant to his town over a 2 piece meal.

There was also the 74^th annual Fiddler’s Convention in Galax, Virginia. (http://www.oldfiddlersconvention.com/info.htm). Missed that by a couple of weeks, but if you ever want to hear Blue Grass played, just find yourself in Galax one day. It’s not on the menu, but that day one of my sides was Blue Grass.

So what now?

I don’t know. Like I said, when this started, it was all about me. Now, it’s all about the people. I think over the course of the next few weeks, I’ll look through my notes and offer some other highlights of the hundreds of towns I visited in this great nation.

Thanks Bojangles’. If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t have had this adventure.

In the words of Homer Simpson, “Woo Hoo!”

Earlier this year I received a calling. A calling or maybe a craving to visit every single Bojangles’ in the US. After months of travel and meeting fantastic people I am DONE!

I will do a recap blog later that will give all the vital stats of my trip but in the mean time I put together a video of one of my last stops. I will always be thankful for all the great people I met. From Bojangles’ employees, to the customers, to all the well wishers. Without all of you I would not have been able to do this. Oh and how can I forget to thank Bojangles’ for making such cravable food. I mean c’mon, where else can you get a biscuit that was made in heaven? Oh, and I tried something the other day that I had never had before, Bojangles’ fried turkey. The fried turkey will be a staple for years to come during the holiday season.

Best Thanksgiving ever......

Halloween is my favorite time of the year. I love scary movies, candy corn and dressing up. But since I am out on the road visiting every Bojangles’ in the country I won’t have that opportunity this year. But I have an idea on how to keep the spirit of Halloween alive but I will need some help.

While I have been traveling around the past week or so I have seen a ton of great jack-o-lanterns on peoples porches. I also saw It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown last night that help inspire this idea.

All this has me thinking about designing a Bojangles’ jack-o-lanter. But I am on the road so I was wondering if anyone would be willing to carve one up. If you do, please email me your pics and I will post them on my blog.

If you are wondering what my costume would have been this year just think of a Large Bojangles’ Sweet Tea and you will get the idea

On one of my stops this summer I hit a town named Woodstock just north of Atlanta, GA. The Bojangles’ there was awesome, they even had a porch.

Thirsty?

I woke up this morning with a thirsty that could not be quenched by the normal morning beverages. I tried drinking coffee, juice (three kinds) and milk (chocolate of course). But nothing I had satisfied my thirst. Then I thought about tea. I hadn’t tried tea yet. But I don’t just like any tea. There was only one place I could go to quench my thirst. Give up? Well, you probably guessed that the only thing that could do the trick is Bojangles’ Sweet Tea. I bought two half gallons of the sweet nectar of the gods this morning. The proof is below.

Some of you might have noticed that I have been less than prompt with giving updates on my travels to all the Bojangles’ in the country. I admit, I did get a bit side tracked. I had to go home to recharge for a couple of weeks. I did however hit the Atlanta Bojangles’ a ton while I was home. But now I am charge up again and ready to finish up my quest.

A Box of Chops

I am crazy about the Bojangles’ Pork Chop Biscuit. I know they’ve only been out for a couple of days but I can’t get enough. I actually ordered a whole box of them this morning. I actually add a little BBQ sauce to mine to give it an added kick. I might try and add some cheese the next time around.

Anyway, go out and try them you won’t be sorry……….

Next up, the quest for the Egg Bo Biscuit.

I can’t get enough of the pork chop biscuit! I had two this morning already.

Also, I hear there is an Egg-Bo biscuits in certain parts of NC. I think someone told me it’s in Greeville. I am heading that way to see what it’s all about.

I need to confirm this but I think the “classic” biscuit that’s coming out is the Pork Chop Biscuit!!

I need to see if I can find a Bojangles’ tomorrow that has one!!

Something Big is Coming!

I’ve been going on about my business this week like usual. Hitting Bojangles’ after Bojangles’ in my quest to visit every single one in the country. But I am getting a funny vibe this week. Some thing big is getting ready to hit Bojangles’. There is a new or “classic” Bojangles’ item making a come back in the next couple of weeks. I have been trying to get some information out of the different Bojangles’ employees but I can’t get anyone to confirm or deny the news.

I have put on my best detective gear and I will get to the bottom of this mystery. If anyone hears anything please let me know.

The long road

This is the road. It’s lonely, and beautiful, and energizing and sad at the same time. Take the last set of homes. I was in this small town, it can be any town, and I drove through the main street.

The main street was bustling with action. The sun was out, and this seemed to bring people out. I half expected someone to pull out a hula hoop or something. As I drove through that town, people waved to me. They didn’t know me, or know about my quest. But they waved. That’s the beautiful thing about this country. The people. They are great. So are the people inside of the Bojangles’ I’ve been visiting. The smiles of the people behind the counter areas full as the bellies of the people in the store. And that reminds me of the town.

The people in that town are like the people in Bojangles’. They sing with me, they smile. They wave. I laugh with them, have some fun with them, and every time, I say I gottawannaneedagettahava combo. Usually I ask them to give me their favorite combo. Here are some memorable examples:

Breakfast: Egg, Cajun Filet and Cheese Biscuit, coffee. Sausage, Ham and Bo’round Biscuit, iced tea Egg, Seasond Fry and Ham, coffee. Triple Sausage Biscuit, Botato Rounds, coffee

The best sandwich ever!

Lunch: (all combos come with Sweet Iced Tea!) Cajun filet and Mac and Cheese Biscuit. 4pc Chicken Supremes with a Bacon Biscuit Cajun Filet Sandwich, Seasoned Fries Cajun Filet, Country Ham, Steak Biscuit Rob combo

I need some good ideas for dinner.
